Delaware North Sportservice Providing Baseball Fans With Affordable Concessions Options in Tough Economy

Buffalo, NY (PRWEB) March 24, 2009

Delaware North Companies Sportservice, recognizing the economic downturn will force many fans to stretch their dollars this baseball season, is set to roll out less-expensive concessions options at its Major League ballparks.

“Sportservice has always been a fan-focused company,” Sportservice President Rick Abramson said. “We know families are tightening budgets, but we still want out guests to enjoy their ballpark experience with traditional favorites such as peanuts, popcorn, and hotdogs. We’re making sure they can.”

Taking a pro-active approach, Abramson and his staff began envisioning several value-focused concessions concepts in November 2008 as national economic concerns were mounting. Several of the company’s chefs and concessions managers then went into the test kitchen to develop specifications for the concepts.

Over the winter, Sportservice has worked with its Major League Baseball clients to select and customize the concepts for each ballpark. Some highlights include:

$ 1 Item Concession Stands, a pilot program at two ballparks, will exclusively sell $ 1 menu items – smaller portions of items offered at other stands. The Cincinnati Reds’ Great American Ball Park will offer a hot dog, soda, peanuts, candy and popcorn at two $ 1 stands. At the $ 1 stand at the Milwaukee Brewers’ Miller Park, a hot dog, soda, ice cream, peanuts, popcorn, and cookie will be available.

Value Meals will offer fans three or four menu items bundled together at a discount. For example, at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington (Texas), Sportservice will offer value meals combining ballpark favorites: a hotdog, soda and either potato chips or fries. Different Value Meals will be available in Milwaukee, Cincinnati, the St. Louis Cardinals’ Busch Stadium, the Cleveland Indians’ Progressive Field, the San Diego Padres’ PETCO Park and the Detroit Tigers’ Comerica Park.

The Hot Dog Condiments Buffet will give fans the chance to customize their hot dogs with toppings beyond the traditional mustard and ketchup. At various ballparks around the country, Sportservice’s condiments buffets could include such toppings as sauerkraut, banana peppers, chopped tomatoes, jalapenos, onions or, of course, Sportservice’s own Secret Stadium Sauce.

The Taste of the Ballpark offers an authentic ballpark experience with a sampling of traditional ballpark favorites. For example, in one package at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Sportservice will offer a hot dog, bag of [peanuts], a soft pretzel with cheese and a cookie.

“Sportservice has been in this business for nearly 100 years since the Jacobs family invented sports concessions,” Abramson said. “We’ve seen ups and downs in the economy, and our ability to adapt and innovate is a big reason for our long-term success.

“We think people will see the options that Sportservice and our teams are providing as a value. We hope these might allow fans to attend a few more games,” he said.
