Mandalay Entertainment Names Cathy Schulman as President of Mandalay Pictures and Newly Formed Mandalay Independent

Veteran film executive and Academy Award winning producer Cathy Schulman, has been named President of Mandalay Pictures and newly formed Mandalay Independent today, January 4, 2007 by Peter Guber, Chairman and CEO of The Mandalay Entertainment Group.
Ms. Schulman will immediately assume her responsibilities for the development, production, distribution, oversight and branding of Mandalay’s film slate. Schulman was last year’s recipient of the 79th Annual Academy Award for best picture with the critically-acclaimed box office hit, Crash. She also produced The Illusionist, starring Edward Norton, which is in current release.
“With a renewed capital commitment for feature films and a multi-year relationship with Universal Pictures we continue to be committed to the belief that the motion picture business will be the center post for Mandalay’s multi-faceted entertainment enterprises. Schulman was most recently a partner in Bulls Eye Entertainment where she produced Sony’s Thumbsucker. Before joining Bulls Eye she produced Lionsgate’s Godsend starring Robert DeNiro. Schulman is currently wrapping a political documentary with her producer partner Don Cheadle involving the Sudan for Warner Independent and Participant Productions. Previous to Bulls Eye Entertainment, she ran APG, the production division of AMG; was an executive at Savoy Pictures, Goldwyn Pictures and Sovereign Pictures; and was a director of programming at the Sundance Film Festival during its formative years in the early 90’s. Schulman has had a hand in numerous films from My Left Foot, Reversal of Fortune, Madness of King George and Much Ado about Nothing to Sidewalks of New York and Gangs of New York.
