Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) January 4, 2007

Veteran film executive and Academy Award winning producer Cathy Schulman, has been named President of Mandalay Pictures and newly formed Mandalay Independent today, January 4, 2007 by Peter Guber, Chairman and CEO of The Mandalay Entertainment Group.

Ms. Schulman will immediately assume her responsibilities for the development, production, distribution, oversight and branding of Mandalay’s film slate. Schulman was last year’s recipient of the 79th Annual Academy Award for best picture with the critically-acclaimed box office hit, Crash. She also produced The Illusionist, starring Edward Norton, which is in current release.

“With a renewed capital commitment for feature films and a multi-year relationship with Universal Pictures we continue to be committed to the belief that the motion picture business will be the center post for Mandalay’s multi-faceted entertainment enterprises. Cathy’s attitude and aptitude are perfectly suited for today’s challenging environment and we plan to support her with additional capital for executives and resources together with the fine and talented executives who currently run Mandalay,” said Guber.

“It is a true pleasure to join Mandalay and play the lead role in creating a future profile for Mandalay Pictures. In joining a ten year old company and producer Peter Guber, who has created and produced so many terrific and successful films, I have a partner who will provide me with the resources and resourcefulness that will enable my experience and the films we create to be successful and special. It’s our shared vision to produce both large scale and independent pictures that will be self-distinguishing in today’s busy and competitive landscape. I am deeply committed to discovering and supporting filmmakers of vision while making Mandalay a continued home for film talent looking to make a difference in the world-wide motion picture landscape,” says Schulman.
