Relic of 1933 Baseball All-Star Game Auctioned on eBay

On July 6th, 1933, America experienced the first All-Star game of our nationâs sports pastime. The first Major League Baseball All-Star game was played at Comiskey park as a part of the Chicago Worldâs Fair. Baseball history was made as the top talent from the American League and the National League took the field before 47,595 fans. At the time it was intended to simply be a one-time event according to Arch Wald, sports editor for the Chicago Tribune in â33. However, the game was so successful that it became an annual event, and Major League Baseball has never looked back.
Now, 73 years later the technology of eBay is allowing the world to bid on a piece of the game that started it all. A New York sports writer that was covering the game took on a small project to collect signatures of all the players in the game. He was successful and as a result, one of the greatest pieces of sports memorabilia in existence was created. EzBayer of Fort Worth recently placed this piece up for auction with a starting bid of $ 25,000.
This piece of history is a tribute to the 1933 Major League Baseball All-Star Game and its participants, including signatures of all the players on both the American League and National League teams. Twenty-one of those players were later inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
This piece features two separate pages with signatures from each of the teams, as well as a replica of an original ticket to the game, the first of its kind. Also included are team photos and the following placards: two placards identifying the team members in the photos; two placards listing each team member, his original team and position played in the game; and one placard that summarizes the game.
