Oakland Athletics team up with Bay Area physicians and AccessMedicalCard to issue promotional membership cards for healthcare for the uninsured.

PLEASANTON, CA (PRWEB) June 2, 2004 –

– The Oakland Athletics and over five hundred physicians and health care providers of the AccessMedical Provider Network announced today, that they will give away 10,000 free one month memberships to individuals and families at Oakland stadium on Saturday, June 12th when the A’s host the Pittsburgh Pirates (game starts at 1:05 pm). Those A’s fans who join AccessMedicalCard’s reduced-fee healthcare program for the uninsured will be able to receive quality healthcare, in their community, from the 400 plus doctors and health care providers of the AccessMedical Provider Network. These physicians and out-patient providers offer affordable healthcare by giving a 40% discount off of their regular fee schedule to members of the AccessMedicalCard program. Most of AccessMedicalCard’s providers practice in the East Bay, and the network is expanding to San Jose and San Mateo County.

During this free offer, interested parties may go online at http://www.AccessMedicalCard.com and sign up for a free one-month trial membership by using the special “Promotional Enrollment” key located on the right side of the website’s front page. These free memberships will expire on July 15, 2004.

All providers are listed on the AccessMedicalCard.com website. Enrollment is online at http://www.AccessMedicalCard.com. For those without access to a computer, the individual can call the Company to enroll at 888-245-0900. Once enrolled, a member can print out their promotional membership card and make an appointment using the provider directory in AccessMedicalCardÂ’s website. There are no claim forms, no deductibles, and no exclusions for pre-existing conditions.

After this special one month promotion, those members can continue membership through regular enrollment. AccessMedicalCard will waive their one time enrollment fee of $ 49 for individuals or families if membership in the program is extended prior to June 30, 2004. Membership fees after the promotion are $ 19.95 per month for an adult individual and $ 49.95 per month for a family (including their minor children).

“We must get out the message that there is a group of concerned and committed physicians who care for the uninsured and are willing to provide quality care at reduced prices,” adds Jerrold Goldman, MD, team physician for the Oakland A’s and member of the AccessMedical Provider Network.

“A patient can save $ 5,000 or more on a procedure such as knee arthroscopy,” says Dr. Goldman. “The savings are a combination of the AccessMedicalCard discounts from surgeons, anesthesiologists, surgery centers and diagnostic imaging centers”.

”The Oakland Athletics have a tradition of community service and we share the concern of the medical community about the growing number of people who are unable to afford health insurance,” says Ken Pries, Oakland A’s VP of Broadcasting and Communications. “We want to help get the message out that there is a group of concerned and committed physicians who care for the uninsured and are willing to provide quality care are reduced prices.”

Doctors in the AccessMedical Provider Network have contracted to provide discounts of 40% for AccessMedicalCard members and their families. These discounts apply to office visits, surgical procedures and imaging procedures.

Carrie Brusco, an insurance agent in Dublin, CA remarks, “At a time when so many of our friends and neighbors are struggling to afford or qualify for health insurance, AccessMedicalCard makes it possible to access affordable, quality healthcare for those without health insurance.”

Bruce Gach, MD, founder of the Livermore Pleasanton Pediatric Medical Group comments, “We are a group of ten physicians who have joined the AccessMedical Provider Network to provide care for children in Livermore and Pleasanton at reduced rates.” Dr. Gach adds, “We are seeing an increasing number of uninsured families. This program gives us an opportunity to not only care for children at reduced fees, but if they need surgery or diagnostic imaging procedures, the discounts that are offered by the AccessMedical program make these procedures affordable.”
