Question by Blackhawks 2010 Stanley Cup Cham: If the Detroit Tigers make the World Series, can you pretty much guarantee the Cubs will be their opponent?
The Cubs were the first team to ever win back to back championships, both of those wins came agains the Detroit Tigers. In 1945, the Cubs made the World Series, but coincidentally lost to the Detroit Tigers. Also in 1984, had the Cubs not lost to the Padres and Steve Garvey in the NLCS they would have gone on to the World Series to face the Detroit Tigers.
