Question by Mr. Knowledgeable VI: How did the Oakland Athletics became so successful in the early 1970’s?
During the early 1950’s and 1960’s, the New York Yankees became the most successful American League Baseball team winning eight American League Championship and winning six World Series. During the 1970’s, the New York Yankees were not become a powerful team and out of nowhere, the Oakland Athletics were the American League West Division Champions from 1971 to 1975 and won the American League Championship and the World Series from 1972 to 1975.
My question is, how did the Oakland Athletics come out of nowhere and become a success during the early 1970’s?

Pitching (Catfish Hunter, Blue Moon Odom, Rollie Fingers) and a guy named Reggie Jackson who could hit 😉 Joe Rudi was a terrific outfielder…they were terrific all around.

BTW, they “only” won the world series in ’72, ’73 and ’74. The Reds beat the Red Sox in ’75.
