Magnetic Announces Winners of Transportation Conversation Video Contest

Magnetic’s President & CEO Jennifer Bakunas hands Steven D. Manno of Andrews & Manno LLC the prize.

Tampa, FL (Vocus) March 9, 2010

Tampa based web design and development firm Magnetic awarded the winners of the “Transportation Conversation” video contest today during the Tampa Bay Business Journal’s Community Conversation Breakfast, which was held this morning at the Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay.

“Our goal with this contest was to demonstrate how social media and traditional media can be used together to generate discussion and voice different points of view on a passionate topic, such as light rail and transportation in Tampa Bay,” said Jennifer Bakunas, President and CEO of Magnetic. “We were excited to be able to collaborate with the Tampa Bay Business Journal to make this contest possible.”

Magnetic partnered with the Tampa Bay Business Journal to create the contest with the hope to foster discussion on the future of Tampa’s public transportation. The contest asked business owners to make a 30 second video explaining their opinions on how improved mass transit in Tampa Bay would affect the community and business for themselves and their employees.

After entrants submitted their videos, they were posted online where users could view and vote for their favorites. The winners were chosen based on the number of votes their video received.

This morning, local business leaders along with a special panelist including Lakeland Mayor Gow Fields and Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio gathered at the Tampa Bay Business Journal Community Conversation Breakfast to not only debate and share opinions on important local transit issues, but also to announce the winners of the “Transportation Conversation” video contest.

The Grand Prize Winner Andrews & Manno, a law firm, received a $ 10,000 website upgrade from Magnetic, and a 30 second web video by SSP Media. Steven D. Manno, Shareholder at Andrews & Manno, P.A., said, ”We’re both very excited to have Magnetic design our new website, and happy to have called attention to the Tampa light rail, which we feel will be a great addition to the Tampa Bay area.”

Along with the Grand Prize $ 10,000 site upgrade, Tampa Bay Business Journal and Magnetic also sponsored prizes for second and third place winners. First Runner-Up, Airheads Trampoline Arena, won a $ 2,500 Online Marketing Campaign from Magnetic. “This contest was an interactive and meaningful way to get the local business community involved with one of the Bay Area’s most critical issues. We are honored to have won 2nd place and plan to put the prize to great use! Families are always looking for a fun and affordable experience and the $ 2,500 Web Marketing Prize will help us further promote our Family Entertainment Center,” said Airheads Trampoline Arena’s Founders Richard Heruska and Steve Johnston.

Second Runner-Up, Verified Label & Print, Inc., which specializes in custom printing and promotions, took third place and scored a $ 1,500 Email Marketing Campaign, also from Magnetic. Ray Sikorski, Owner of Verified Label, said “It’s an honor to have a video in the top 3, and an opportunity to express my opinion. Light rail is a great concept, but it doesn’t work in lower population density areas like Tampa. It will be a huge drain on our budget, will only serve a very small percentage of the population, and can’t be justified in any realistic cost/benefit analysis. But sadly, government projects like this are rarely judged realistically!”

Magnetic is excited to begin fulfilling the prizes to the contest winners. “This video contest was a great success, and we plan to continue to be involved in ongoing education and debate of transportation in Tampa Bay. Congratulations to all the winners, we’re looking forward to working with them all,” said Bakunas.
