September 19, 1968 — Detroit Tigers Pitcher Denny McLain’s 31st win is overshadowed by Mickey Mantle’s 535th homer which was good enough for 3rd on the all time list. Joe Pepitone, the next batter, signaled where he would like the ball, and McLain dusted him. The Tigers won the game, 6 – 2, the 12th straight complete game for the Tigers staff.
