Blue Star Families, a national, nonprofit network of military families, is proud to launch its newest program, MilKidz Club, this Sunday, April 1st at the Sierra Club’s Celebration of the Military Child outdoors event. The MilKidz Club, made possible through a generous donation from Onsite Health, connects military kids – regardless of rank, branch of service or military installation – and provides them the resources, mentoring and opportunity to become the next wave of leaders in their communities.

Sunday, April 1st from 12 noon to 4 pm, the Sierra Club’s Celebration of the Military Child outdoors event will be held at the Prince William Forest Park in Triangle, Virginia. MilKidz Club, along with its partners – the Sierra Club, Mission Outdoors; Armed Services YMCA; National Military Family Association and Outdoors Alliance for Kids – will connect military children with the outdoors by helping them enjoy and explore the lands they and their parents sacrifice to protect. More than 350 military kids and their parents are expected to attend.

“Onsite Health is very excited work with Blue Star Families and their upcoming MilKidz Club launch,” said Ernest A. Blackwelder, Onsite Health CEO. “We recognize the difficulties military families have, especially when a parent is deployed. We believe MilKidz Club is a wonderful way to support these amazing families. We look forward to the upcoming launch and hope the families have a great time with it as well!”

The MilKidz Club is inspired by the thousands of post-9/11 generation of military children who have grown up in a country at war. The MilKidz Club provides a national venue for these children to share their perspectives of family life during the past decade.

“Our military children face many challenges right now,” said Mark Smith, Executive Director of Blue Star Families. “Between moves, school and deployments, military kids really need a chance to get outside, play, and explore. That’s why we’re excited to launch MilKidz Club at this great event, with these military-serving organizations celebrating military children outdoors.”

The MilKidz Club aims to provide an outlet to relieve the stress the military children experience through service and volunteerism, community leadership, and involvement in patriotic activities. Additionally, by bringing together a team of milkids, the program connects them to others who share their unique service to country while providing them the opportunity to become the next wave of leaders in our communities.
