Understand.com Hires World Renowned Medical Artist as Vice President, Creative

Understand.com is proud to announce the addition of Scott Barrows, one of the worldâs best-known medical illustrators and animators, as Vice President, Creative.

Barrows has blended a career as an artist, educator, and innovator. A co-creator of Age-Progressed Imagery (used to find 23 missing children), Barrows has received accolades and honors from numerous groups, including two United States presidents.
âI initially learned of Understand through graduate students they had hired as animators and illustrators,â says Barrows, âthey would contact me raving about the company and the cool things they were doing â so I had to learn more about themâ, chuckles Barrows. âAfter my initial visit to their offices and meeting the team, I was truly impressed with the company and inspired by their future. Things just progressed from there.â
Barrows has illustrated best selling books, hundreds of journals, over 55 surgical atlases, museum murals, animated videos, and contributed to a Hollywood motion picture (even designed a few uniforms for the Chicago White Sox). Barrows has been a guest on ABCâs World News Tonight, the CBS Morning Show, and dozens of other television productions. Barrowsâ work is featured in galleries, collections, and museums worldwide, including the National Library of Medicine.
Mr. Barrows is a Board Certified Medical Illustrator, a Fellow of the Association of Illustrators, and most recently was the Program Director and Clinical Assistant Professor of Biomedical Visualization at the University of Illinois at Chicago Medical Center – the second oldest program in the western hemisphere and the largest of the four accredited schools of medical illustration in the United States.
An Honors graduate of the University of Illinois at Chicago Medical Center, he also attended the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Northern Illinois University, and earned an advanced degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Illinois at Springfield.
