Question by ZeppineX: Why did the Minnesota Twins ever leave their old ball park?
I saw an old film of the 1965 World Series between the L.A Dodgers and the Minnesota Twins, and was completely amazed at how the Twins old park looked like! It was such a beautiful ballpark!

When and why did the Twins ownership decide to leave that stadium?
It would have been just as old as Dodger Stadium, and look at Dodger Stadium today, it damn near looks like it opened yesterday!

What happened to that ballpark and what was the name of it?

It was named the Metropolitan Stadium (and is where the Mall of America is today (a home plate plaque is in the amusement park section of the mall)).

As for why…. it just wasn’t large enough for the Vikings who also played there, and since it wasn’t viable at the time for the city to have a stadium just for football, the Twins moved too (in 1981). That said though, the Twins will be getting a new park just for themselves in the near future.
