Travel Insured Includes School Year Extension Coverage to Protect Prepaid Vacations When Snow Makeup Days Conflict With Travel Dates
East Hartford, CT (Vocus/PRWEB) February 02, 2011
School closings due to winter snow and ice storms will make children cheer, but too many days of sleigh riding and hot cocoa can lead to vacation hangovers since school-mandated makeup days may soon conflict with prepaid vacation dates. When school vacation days are rescheduled as makeup days on the academic calendar the cheering for students has ended and a problem for parents may be created.
Travel Insured International®, a leading privately-owned travel insurance provider, delivers a solution to the moveable school vacation dilemma. It includes an unforeseen School Year Extension as a covered reason for Trip Cancellation in the companyâs Worldwide Trip Protector, Worldwide Trip Protector Gold and Trip Protector Lite Expanded plans. The School Extension coverage can apply when the primary or secondary school where the insured, his or her traveling companion, or their dependent children attend must extend an operating session beyond the pre-defined school year under specified conditions. An added coverage value is Travel Insured’s “Kids are Free” coverage on some plans when a related adult or adults are the primary insureds traveling on the same plan.
Here are some School Year Extension coverage specifics to remember:
The School Year Extension coverage is included as a covered reason for Trip Cancellation in the specified Travel Insured plans. There is no optional upgrade to the policy or added premium required.
The unforeseen reason for a school closing is not limited to weather. A school may require makeup days due to a flu outbreak or other health emergency, an emergency school building repair, power loss, or other unforeseen reason.
Dependent children need not be going on the prepaid trip for coverage to apply. The parent or legal guardian’s own prepaid trip can be covered if disrupted by their child’s â or their traveling companion’s child’s â school extension. Insured travelers can also themselves be the primary or secondary student whose trip is disrupted by the school year extension.
Most important is the need for travelers to plan ahead for the coverage. The reason for the School Year Extension, such as the snow day or a flu outbreak that resulted in the original cancellation, must have occurred after the travel insurance plan was purchased and in effect.
The travel dates for your trip must fall within the period of the school year extension. Insured travelers will need documentation from their school district confirming the date and reason for a school cancellation and the resulting makeup date to successfully resolve their claim.
The school vs. vacation date conflict must be the result of a rescheduled school class day only. Extensions due to rescheduling an extra-curricular activity or athletic event are not covered.
Kids are Free coverage is included on two plans that have School Extension coverage. All children under 18 are free on the Worldwide Trip Protector plan when a related adult is the primary insured traveling on the same plan, and one child under 18 gets free coverage on the Trip Protected Lite Expanded plan per each related adult who is the primary insured traveling on the plan.
Winter is the right time to protect both the vacationing family and the household budget from suffering a financial hangover from too many school snow days resulting in a vacation conflict due to makeup days. Travel Insured includes the right protection with its School Extension coverage.
