Silver & Black Series Boasts 31 More Players Selected In Last Week’s Major League Baseball’s First-Year Player Draft

Walworth, WI (PRWEB) June 17, 2011

The 8th annual Silver & Black Series presented by Sandlot Baseball, Inc. will take place June 20, 2011 at Symonds/Puckett Field, Triton College in River Grove, Illinois. This event will also feature an Underclass version the following day June 21, 2011 at Homewood-Flossmoor High School. The top high school baseball players from the Midwest have been invited to this quality event free of charge. The June 20th Silver & Black Series participants will also benefit with an invite to the Area Code tryouts, June 27 & 28 at Elgin Community College and Triton College. Players selected for the White Sox Area Code team will travel to California in August to compete in the prestigious Area Code Games.

Jake Smolinski, a Double A prospect in the Florida Marlins system said, “The Silver & Black Series was the event that prepared me the most for the Area Code Games. I often reflect on how fortunate I was to participate in such a quality event at no cost. That kind of opportunity is almost nonexistent for todays’ high school athlete.”

An action packed day is scheduled for Monday, June 20th with a first pitch at 9 AM and Tuesday’s first pitch slated for 10 AM. Each team will play two games and each pitcher will have a 15 pitch count maximum per inning.

The Silver and Black Series is one of the top baseball events in the Midwest. The student-athletes who have exhibited superior skill on the baseball diamond and exceptional character off the diamond are invited annually to exhibit their talents amongst professional scouts and college coaches.

Says Purdue Boilermaker recruit Jordan Minch, “Since attending my first Silver & Black Series the summer before my freshmen year, it has had a major affect on my baseball career. The exposure and the experience I received from this event has been outstanding.”

The Silver & Black Series is a platform step for those that aspire to baseball on a higher level. Matt Igara, current Western Illinois University Leatherneck said, “the Silver & Black Series is the premiere showcase for players who are serious about moving on to the next level of baseball.”

Standout participants earn the opportunity to travel to the Area Code Games in California. At this venue, the audience grows to a national level as MLB Scouts and college coaches from all over the nation are in attendance. An exceptional performance can unlock options for a young player from the professional ranks and academic institutions.

Notable Silver & Black Series alumni include Boston Red Sox Major Leaguer Michael Bowden, Minnesota Twins prospect Joe Benson, Chicago Cubs prospect Elliot Soto, and current ASU Sun Devil John Ruettiger.

This year the Silver & Black Series is sponsored by Mizuno USA and the Hoosier Bat Company.
