Places to Visit in Washington DC

Washington DC is the state capital of United States and thus a very important political place in the world. Other than its political importance the city is well known for its beauty and tourist resorts. The city offers you many beautiful places to visit that are totally free of cost. Some museums and parks charge only minimally and thus provide you with a good opportunity to relax and enjoy.
The most famous of the landmarks in Washington is the statue of liberty. This tall white statue stands high forming the insignia of Washington. You would never have heard of anyone visiting Washington and not visiting the statue of liberty. People stand with the statue and take many photographs as a souvenir to show to their friends and family. The statue of liberty is also present on many postcards that are bought by the tourists and other people.
The other important place is the White House. White is one of the most valuable and powerful building in the world. It is unique in architecture and construction. People have been visiting the place since many years. With its beautiful lawns and spacious courts, the building is the most cherished of all the other buildings in USA. There are guides that take the tourists inside for tours and tell them about the place and its history. However due the terrorist attacks of 9/11 the government has banned the tourists inside the building. We are still waiting for the day when the government will open it for the tourists again.
Korean War Veterans Memorial is a huge memorial that is built in the memory of the martyrs and the soldiers of the Vietnamese war. The Vietnamese war was one of the most notorious wars of the history that was fought between Vietnam and USA in 1960’s and many soldiers were killed at that time. The memorial is located 1.3 miles away from the center of the city and houses the monuments, statues and pictures of the soldiers that served there motherland during the battle. A pool of remembrance and a triangular field is built in the area.
Washington National Cathedral is a Gothic style cathedral. It is considered as one of the largest cathedral in the world in terms of its area and is thus very highly well known. Many important events like the funeral of the President Wilson’s was held here. Very large number of people attended the ceremony to pay the last farewell to their great leader. Also the place was used for the prayer of the American hostages during the Iranian crises. In this manner the cathedral has played very important role in the history. It is at a distance of 3.7 miles from the center of the main city.
Other places that are worth mentioning in Washington are the Lincoln’s Memorial, the Basilica of  the national Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, the National gallery of Art, the National Museum of Natural history and the Library of congress.
