Orange County Business Leaders to Salute National Guard and Reservists at Angel Stadium Festivities

ANAHEIM, CA (PRWEB) April 22, 2004

Orange County business and community leaders will gather Tuesday, May 4 at Angel Stadium in Anaheim to honor local employers who support California National Guard and military reservists. As part of a nationwide campaign to collect 1.2 million signatures, one for every guardsman and reservist, the Department of Defense’s Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) agency is sponsoring a breakfast in the stadium’s Diamond Club.

Later that night, a pre-game ceremony between the Anaheim Angels and the Detroit Tigers will feature a fly-over by U.S. Air Force refueling tankers and a first pitch by Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs Thomas Hall.

The morning event will feature a NASCAR show car, known as “America’s Car”, parked in front of the stadium where the public can have their pictures taken with the car and sign several large “Support Our Troops” banners that will be sent to servicemen and women stationed in Iraq, Afghanistan, Bosnia and elsewhere in the world.

Hall, who will be the breakfast’s keynote speaker, will be joined by ESGR event chairman, Orange County Supervisor James Silva, and ESGR committee members, including Supervisors Tom Wilson, Bill Campbell, Chuck Smith and Chris Norby, and Anaheim Mayor Kurt Pringle.

“Saluting America’s employers is the right thing to do, and this is the right time to do it,” said Bob Hollingsworth, ESGR executive director. “Many of California’s employers have gone above and beyond in their support of their employees who serve in the state’s National Guard and Reserve.” He added that ESGR representatives will provide employers with information to ensure compliance with the USERRA laws, as well as suggestions on how best to manage their employees who serve their country in the California National Guard and Reserve.

The mission of ESGR is to gain and maintain active employer support from all public and private employers for the men and women of the Guard and Reserve as defined by demonstrated employer commitment to employee military service.
