Question by LamboJeff: Why are there 16 National League Baseball Teams but only 14 American League ones?
In addition why are there only 4 teams in the American League West but 6 teams in the National League Central?

They want an even number in each league so that on big days, like opening day, july 4th, closing day, memorial day, labor day, as well as most weekends (Friday-Saturday), etc., nobody has a day off.

Personally, I think that rationale isn’t as important since inter-league play started. I would like to see it become even and then stagger inter-league play throughout the season.
