Hall of Famer Dave Winfield Joins ESPN

Baseball Hall of Famer Dave Winfield has joined ESPN as a Baseball Tonight analyst and will mainly work Sundays and select Mondays with host Karl Ravech and analysts Peter Gammons and John Kruk throughout the Major League Baseball season. He will make his Baseball Tonight debut Sunday, April 5, at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN2, leading into Opening Night – Atlanta vs. Philadelphia – at 8 p.m.

During his 22-year Major League career, Winfield was a 12-time All-Star and seven-time Gold Glove winner. He played for six teams (San Diego Padres, 1973-80; New York Yankees, 1981-90; California Angels, 1990-91; Toronto Blue Jays, 1992; Minnesota Twins, 1993-94; and Cleveland Indians, 1995), winning a world championship with the Blue Jays in 1992. Winfield did not spend one day in the minors, instead jumping directly to the majors where he amassed 3,110 hits and 465 home runs, along with a career .283 batting average.
Winfield was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2001 and was part of the College Baseball Hall of Fame’s inaugural class in 2006. He was the recipient of Major League Baseball’s Roberto Clemente Award in 1994, given annually to the player demonstrating character and making charitable contributions to the community.
Before pursuing a career in professional baseball, Winfield was such an accomplished athlete he was drafted by the NFL (Vikings), NBA (Hawks), and ABA (Stars), in addition to the Padres. He currently serves as an executive vice president/senior advisor with the San Diego Padres.
