Quicken Loans Donates $ 5,000 to USO of Northern Ohio

Detroit, MI (Vocus/PRWEB) April 05, 2011

Quicken Loans Inc. and the American Hockey League’s Lake Erie Monsters held a ceremony on April 1, 2011 at the Quicken Loans Arena, to conclude the “Veteran of the Game” program for the 2010-2011 regular season, donating $ 5,000 to the United Service Organizations (USO) of Northern Ohio.

Jeff Perry of Quicken Loans, Vice President of the Quicken Loans Cleveland Web Center, presented the check to Bob Hope, President and member of the Board of Directors of the Northeast Ohio USO. The nephew of Hollywood legend Bob Hope, who entertained troops for more than 50 years, accepted the donation on behalf of the USO of Northern Ohio, which supports service members both domestic and abroad.

“Quicken Loans and the Lake Erie Monsters are committed to community involvement,” said Perry. “Part of that responsibility includes taking time to honor those who serve to defend the freedoms we enjoy. We’re proud to salute our Veterans of the Game and support the efforts of the USO.”

The ceremony, taking place before the national anthem, also recognized the last Veteran of the Game for the season, Petty Officer 2nd Class David Kokish, of the United States Navy, who served as an architect and fought in combat during the Kuwait liberation. Joining Kokish at the ceremony was his family, Kim, Shelby and Cody.

The 50-state lender of mortgages, including VA loans, supports veterans through employment, sponsorships and other community outreach efforts. The Veteran of the Game program gave the USO of Northern Ohio an opportunity to select veterans nominated by individuals, military bases or veteran organizations and recognize them for their service. Veterans from all branches of the military, retired or active duty, and from all wars who live in the Cleveland-Northern Ohio area were eligible.

All honorees and their family members were admitted free of charge to a Monsters game and were acknowledged for their service at the Quicken Loans Arena with their biography posted on the Monsters website.
