Giants score vs. Pittsburgh Pirates, 8/23/92

Robbie Thompson works out a walk, and catcher Kurt Manwaring doubles him in. I was one of 32129 in attendance that day. Despite the sizable crowd, there were acres of empty seats. Candlestick was too big for baseball but too small for football. AT&T Park holds just over 40000 fans, a good size for a baseball park. Despite its drawbacks, Candlestick holds a warm spot in the hearts of millions of Giants fans. It served as home for the team from 1960 to 1999. Great Giants players like Willie Mays, Juan Marichal, Orlando Cepeda, Willie McCovey and the Alou brothers played some of their best games in Candlestick.
