Toledo, OH Author Publishes New Book
Toledo, OH (Vocus/PRWEB) February 04, 2011
Ikaria – Paradise in Peril, a new book by Dr. John Chrysochoos, Ph.D., has been released by RoseDog Books.
Surrounded by the blue Aegean Sea lies the beautiful island of Ikaria, where the mythical Ikaros drowned according to the Greek mythology. A steep mountain with granite peaks dominates the island, discouraging travelers in the past from visiting. Ikarians have exploited such an unflattering initial impression for thousands of years in discouraging pirates, raiders, conquerors, and undesirables from landing on their island. Visitors, however, have always been stunned by Ikariaâs rugged, almost primordial, natural beauty: Idyllic beaches, dense forests, countless springs with crystal clear water, many rivulets, hot water springs, clean air, and the celebrated Ikarian hospitality; a paradise in peril due to progress and ill-planned development.
Dr. John Chrysochoos, Ph.D. was born on the island of Ikaria where he spent his childhood and teenage years. He earned his Diploma in Chemistry at the University of Athens, Greece (1957), his M.Sc. (1962) and Ph.D. (1964) in Physical Chemistry at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada. In 1964 he settled in the United States as an educator and researcher. Currently he is professor emeritus of Chemistry at the University of Toledo, Ohio. He is the author of nonfiction Beyond the Blue Ikarian Sea, fiction Elusive Dreams, and nonfiction In Reason we Trust, available online. The author can be reached at: jchryso(at)utnet(dot)utoledo(dot)edu.
Ikaria – Paradise in Peril is a 218-page paperback with a retail price of $ 23.00. The ISBN is 978-1-4349-8240-7. It was published by RoseDog Books of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
