The U.S. Bank Arena, originally known as the Riverfront Coliseum, and known later as The Crown, and the Firstar Center was built along the Ohio River in 1975 for the Cincinnati Stingers of the WHA (World Hockey Association), who played in the 12,823-seat arena until 1979. The facility’s longest-serving tenant was the University of Cincinnati Bearcats men’s basketball team, which used the arena from its completion through 1997.

The arena it has been home to the Cincinnati Cyclones of the ECHL (East Coast Hockey League) from 1997-2004 and again starting in 2006; Cincinnati Marshals of the NIFL (National Indoor Football League) from 2004-2006; the Cincinnati Kids of the MISL (Major Indoor Soccer League) from 1978-1979), the Cincinnati Rockers of the AFL (Arena Football League) from 1992-1993; and the af2’s Cincinnati Swarm in 2003 and Cincinnati Jungle Kats in 2007.

The first event ever staged at the arena was an Allman Brothers concert by the Allman Brothers. Elvis Presley played his next to last performance here on June 25, 1977. The arena was the site of the Regional of the 1979 NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Tournament and 1987 NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Tournament, as well as a first and second round site for the 1988 NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Tournament and the 1992 NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Tournament.
