Morton, Cedeno lead Pirates to 3-1 win over Astros
Charlie Morton solidified his spot in Pittsburgh’s rotation with six shutout innings Sunday in the Pirates’ 3-1 over a Houston Astros split squad. The Astros, meanwhile, eliminated left-hander Ryan Rowland-Smith from the competition for their fifth starting spot. Morton, coming off a 2-12 season, gave up four singles and struck out five in dropping his spring ERA to 1.29.

Pence homers, has three hits in Astros’ win
Not even a cut on his shin that required four stitches was going to put a damper on Hunter Pence’s fine spring training. Pence hit his first homer and had three hits with two runs scored before leaving in the fifth inning with the injury, and the Houston Astros beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 10-6 Wednesday.
