Major League Baseball is one of the most exciting sports in the United States. While there are many who enjoy the game for its own sake, there are others who need to feel involved at any cost – through screaming from the sidelines, wearing their team’s color, or even betting on their progress.

If you do choose to bet on the National League teams, here are some clues about the favorites for the 2010 season. Baseball being as unpredictable as it is, there is absolutely no telling whether or not your bet will be successful. But then… where’s the harm in trying?

The Phillies from Philadelphia, East, are very much the reigning favorites, with 89 wins to their name. Pitchers like Roy Halladay and Cole Hamels are to be feared by all opponents, while Ryan Howard and Chase Utley are superb on the first and second base respectively. Add in Jayson Werth on the right field, and they look quite close to unbeatable.

The second of our favorites comes from the Central Zone – the St. Louis Cardinals. With 88 wins and 722 runs, they could certainly make life substantially difficult for the Phillies – especially thanks to one man named Pujols, who is clearly and obviously the best player on the American baseball fields today. Molina, Wainwright and Carpenter are a potent trio of an excellent catcher and two superb pitchers. Together, it seems as though this combination will be impossible to beat!

Thirdly, we have the Atlanta Braves, again from the East Zone. Their performance depends largely on Tim Hudson’s, and his coupling with Tommy Hanson and Jurrjens. If this combination, with Derek Lowe, clicks, then the Atlantas will be excellent candidates for the Wild Card to the World series.

From the West Zone, the Los Angeles Dodgers are the pick of the crowd at the moment. Matt Kemp, James Loney and Andre Ethier are all young players in this team, and are growing into a tight-knit, mature unit that is the powerhouse of the team. MannyBManny, Broxton and Russell Matin are also important parts of the team, and they help it grow from strength to strength.

Fifth in this tiny list, we have the Chicago Cubs. Though called cubs, these full-grown wildcats are capable of leaving any opposition in shreds. With Dempster as a pitcher, Ryan Theriot as shortstop and Ramirez on third base, they are certainly an outfit worth looking out for. Also, with 79 wins and 712 runs in 2009, they have a good past record to go upon.

These are five out of many teams to watch during the 2010 National League Baseball. Start calculating as soon as the season begins, and you’re likely to end up with a tidy sum if you place the right bets!
