The St. Louis Bulldogs minor league football team had two players receive Central Region player of the year awards from the Minor League Football News publication. Riverfront Times contributor and free safety Toriano âToryâ Porter and tight end Wendell Mosley were honored during the MLFNâs 9th annual Players of the Year Award selection process earlier this month.
The MLFN award players who participate in the various semi-pro and minor league football leagues around the country, based on stats, evaluation and nominations from league coaches, players and administrators. The Bulldogs are members of the North American Football League (NAFL).
Porter, a 6-foot-2 inch, 175 pound free safety, was named Defensive Back of the Year for the Central Region, while the 6-1, 205 lb. Mosley was named Tight End of the Year for the Central Region. The Central Region consists of teams and players throughout Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, Minneapolis, Iowa, Kansas and Illinois.
In his sixth season for the Bulldogs, Porter led the team in interceptions with 8 and finished second in tackles with over 80 total tackles. Mosley, a veteran of the minor league scene, led the Bulldogs in receptions, touchdown receptions and receiving yards during the 2005 season.
The Bulldogs also had several other players receive Central Region âAll-Americaâ honors, including defensive end Fred Robinson (1st team), offensive lineman Stan Johnson (1st team), linebacker Mike Paconowski (1st team), Porter (1st team) and Mosley (1st team). Kick Return Specialist Damien Wilson and linebacker Joe Anderson received 2nd Team All Central Region.
