Edmonton Announced as Host of GoMedia Canada September 2011 by the Edmonton Economic Development Corporation

Edmonton, AB (Vocus) October 1, 2010

The Edmonton Economic Development Corporation is proud to announce that Edmonton will be the meeting point of the Canadian tourism industry and top Canadian and international travel media next fall, as host of GoMedia Canada Marketplace.

Up to 400 delegates are expected at the Edmonton Expo Centre from September 16 – 22, 2011, representing a wide range of media outlets. They will learn more about Canada as a tourism destination by participating in pre-scheduled appointments with tourism organizations and in various networking activities.

“Hosting GoMedia is an honour as it promises great recognition for Edmonton as well as a significant boost September 2011 to Edmonton’s economy,” said Ken Fiske, Vice-President of Economic and Tourism Development at Edmonton Economic Development Corporation. “As Canada’s Festival City and as the host city, this is an opportunity to show influential visitors from across Canada and around the world what Edmonton has to offer.”

Launched in 2004, GoMedia Canada Marketplace is where travel media get inspired to create new stories on Canada and enhance their destination knowledge by taking part in pre and post tours and meeting with media relations representatives from coast to coast to coast. It is a platform to exchange ideas and receive news media inquiries, media releases, story ideas, print and broadcast images and footage, as well as useful tourism industry contacts. Since its introduction, the event has generated more than $ 20 million in advertising return.

“By meeting and networking in Edmonton, delegates and sponsors will generate spending in the local economy,” added Fiske of the EEDC. “More importantly, hosting this conference in Edmonton is an investment in the city’s future. The goal is to increase awareness and attract more tourism to the city and the region.”

Past hosts have included Montreal, Whistler, Toronto, and Banff.
