The Texas Rangers entered MLB as the second Washington Senators, a 1961 expansion franchise. The original MLB Washington Senators left DC in 1960 to become the Minnesota Twins. The second Washington Senators relocated to Arlington, Texas, in 1972 and became the Rangers.  Some of the biggest fans in baseball the Rangers love the area and hold special interests with all the fundraising they do.

Along with the Seattle Mariners and the Washington Nationals (originally the Montreal Expos) the Texas Rangers are one of three MLB franchises to have never won a league championship, much less a World Series. The franchise has made it to the American League Divisional Series three times (1996, 1998, 1999). They were eliminated each time by the New York Yankees and only won a single game in the three series. Not only are the Rangers the oldest MLB franchise not to appear in the World Series, they are the oldest franchise in all the four major pro sports leagues to have never appeared in a league championship series. And when the Tampa Bay Rays defeated the Chicago White Sox in the 2008 American League Divisional Series, the Texas Rangers became the only current Major League Baseball franchise to have never won a playoff series.

In 1994 the Texas Rangers moved from Arlington Stadium to its new home, a stadium named simply “The Ballpark in Arlington.” Financial services firm Ameriquest purchased naming rights to the Ballpark from 2004 through the 2006 season. When the contract expired and rights returned to the stadium it was renamed once more as Rangers Stadium. So despite having played in Arlington Stadium, Ameriquest Stadium and Rangers Stadium, the Texas Rangers has played home games on the same field since 1994.

At the end of the 2006 regular season the Texas Rangers fired manager Buck Showalter. In his 4 seasons with the team Showalter had a .492 winning percentage. His best was .549 in 2004, the club’s last plus .500 season. Showalter was replaced by Ron Washington. The Texas Rangers are Washington’s first MLB managerial position. In 2007 he coached the team to a 75-87 record and 4th place finish. In 2008 the club improved by 4 games and 2 places to take 2nd in the most uncompetitive West Division in years.
