The Washington Times and Talk Radio Network are partnering to create a nationally syndicated, morning-drive radio show with an innovative new format aimed at showcasing investigative reporting, accountability journalism and live reporting directly from The Times’ newsroom inside the nation’s capital. The Washington Times Morning Show is set to launch later this spring.
Mark Masters, the CEO of Talk Radio Network, noted that Talk Radio Network has developed more top talk radio shows than any other company, and is looking forward to the opportunity to partner with The Washington Times in developing this unique new program.
“The Washington Times has made a very strong commitment to investigative reporting, building a journalistic team, headed by former “Post” honcho John Solomon, that will be second to none. We believe this unique journalistic team, combined with radio’s ability to give the time and context needed to flesh out breaking stories, will make for a powerful winning combination in talk radio.”
Masters continued, “Rather than commenting on yesterday’s news, this news show will have the capacity to make, break, and drive the news cycle. Like 60 Minutes once did for TV, this show can do for radio. We are very excited and honored to embark in this partnership with The Washington Times investigative team.”
Phil Boyce, the President of Programming for Talk Radio Network, said, “TRN is excited to partner with The Washington Times in this brave new venture. This show will be fast-paced and compelling with great story telling by the reporters breaking the stories. Morning radio in America will have a new player heavy on information and riveting content.”
Washington Times Publisher Thomas P. McDevitt said the partnership helps continue the newspaper’s rapid transformation into a multimedia, multi-platform news company that delivers content on a wide variety of digital platforms worldwide.
“Our distinctive news reporting is reaching millions of new consumers across this country and we are pleased to be partnering with Mark and one of the best news talk radio companies in the world to help spread our enterprising journalism to the radio format,” McDevitt said. “In a time of large economic and national security challenges, Americans will be able to get distinctive, authoritative news from one of America’s most influential newspapers delivered through an innovative radio show produced by the best in the business.”
The Washington Times, launched in 1982, has one of the fastest growing news Web sites in the country and over the last year has produced scores of high-impact investigative exposes, ranging from ethical conflicts involving administration nominees and members of Congress to the mistreatment of veterans in a VA medical experiment.
John Solomon, executive editor of the Times, said the newspaper has a large number of reporters and editors working on investigative and enterprise reporting projects on any given day and plans to break stories, launch investigative projects and conduct exclusive, in-depth interviews on the new show.
“Accountability journalism is one of the hallmarks of The Washington Times and the very reporters and editors on the front lines of Washington’s biggest stories will now be able to share their scoops, insights and inside stories with radio listeners every morning in what promises to be a ground-breaking new genre of news radio,” Solomon said.
