Lakeland, FL (PRWEB) January 10, 2004
Polk County Sports Marketing has announced plans to host a charity golf tournament in conjunction with the Detroit Tigers on March 1, 2004. The event, which will benefit the Detroit Tigers Foundation, will take place at The Club at Eaglebrooke in Lakeland. ÂÂWe look forward to putting on a fun event that will benefit the Lakeland community that we are so proud to be a part of,ÂÂ said Ron Myers, Director of Florida Operations for the Tigers.
Each golfer who registers for the 9th Annual Major League Scramble will play 18 holes of golf in a foursome, which will include a player, coach or executive from the Tigers organization or at least one alumni associated with Major League Baseball. Golfers will be accommodated on a first come, first served basis.
ÂÂWe look forward to staging another great Major League Scramble and also are excited to welcome back Major League Baseball alumni to join the Detroit Tigers,ÂÂ said Mark Jackson, Director of Polk County Sports Marketing (PCSM).
All proceeds will be donated to the Detroit Tigers Foundation, which benefits a number of local charities and youth organizations. All proceeds from this yearÂÂs tournament will benefit Lakeland area youth baseball. ÂÂWe want to show the community that we are not just here for six weeks a year, we want to be able to give back to the area year round,ÂÂ said Myers of the Detroit Tigers dedication to the Lakeland area. Now in its eighth year, the Major League Scramble has raised more than $ 50,000 for local charities since its inception. The registration fee is $ 600 for a four-member team and $ 700 for businesses that wish to enter four players and sponsor a hole. Companies can receive special benefits as an MVP sponsor for $ 900, or sponsor a hole for $ 100. The fee for a single golfer is $ 175.
Prizes will be awarded to each member of the first and second place low gross and low net teams as well as the individual golfers who record the longest drives and the tee shots landing closest to the pin. The tournament begins with a shotgun start at 12:00 p.m. and will be followed by a reception and awards presentation.
