Bay Area Radio Museum in conjunction with the California Historical Radio Society and Broadcast Legends, recently announced the induction of Amaury Pi-Gonzalez into the Hall of Fame. Pi-Gonzalez, a 32-year veteran of Major League Baseball broadcasting, serves as the lead announcer for the Spanish Beisbol Network’s (SBN) Oakland A’s Spanish-language broadcasts and is a regular contributor to SBN’s website, http://www.beisbol.net.

Pi-Gonzalez is a pioneer in establishing Spanish baseball radio play-by-play in the Bay Area. During his career, he served five years as sports anchor for Telemundo TV-48 in San Jose and was the Spanish voice for the NBA’s Golden State Warriors from 1992-1999. In 2004, he was inducted into the Cuban Sports Hall of Fame and into the Hispanic Heritage Baseball Museum. Pi-Gonzalez began his career in 1977 with the A’s, and has also broadcasted for the San Francisco Giants, Seattle Mariners, and Los Angeles Angels.

The induction ceremony will take place at a gala gathering on Saturday, September 25, 2010, at the Doubletree Hotel and Executive Meeting Center on the Berkeley Marina. Nearly 7,000 votes were cast online, mail in ballot or at various CHRS and Broadcast Legends events during the public advisory balloting period for this year’s nominees in seven categories:

Announcer/Personality, News, Sports, Engineer, Owner/Manager, Specialty and Pioneer. Pi-Gonzalez has been elected in the sports category.
