Oregon Non-Profit CEO Receives National Leadership Award

Portland, OR (PRWEB) March 16, 2012

Ms. Morrison was honored for her years of inspired leadership and heartfelt commitment to improving and strengthening the integrity of the USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) in Oregon and nationally. She has served as the President of the National CACFP Forum, the President of the Oregon CACFP Sponsors Alliance and numerous national committees and task forces that address child nutrition, hunger and obesity issues.

During the 2010 re-authorization of the Healthy Hunger Free Kids Act, Ms. Morrison provided testimony to Congress offering ways to improve the CACFP nutrition program so that more children may benefit from nutritional meals and snacks in child care settings. These suggestions for administrative improvements were subsequently incorporated into the new legislation.

Based on qualified research, this underutilized nutrition program has reduced childhood hunger and obesity, improved child development outcomes and educational scores, reduced health care costs and stimulated the economy through provision of meal reimbursements for nutritious foods.

Ms. Morrison has also been a leader in utilizing existing technology to monitor child care programs. CCDS is an innovator in developing and using administrative technology to increase access and improve oversight of the federally funded program. CCDS is recognized for sharing these improvements and ideas with other programs that may benefit from their use. Under her leadership CCDS has grown into the largest sponsor of the CACFP in the state of Oregon, providing services to approximately 10,000 children daily in 20 Oregon counties.
