San Diego (Vocus) November 11, 2010

The lineup has been set for Celebrity Pitcher Day for the Miracle League of San Diego. On Saturday, November 13th starting at 10 AM, Miracle League players will have the opportunity to come face to face with current and former MLB players for a chance to hit one out of the park.

The schedule for the day is as follows:

9:55 am — National Anthem performed by renowned trumpet player Steve Dillard
10:00 am — ML Twins at Padres, featuring guest pitchers Heath Bell and Bud Black
11:00 am — ML Storm at Marlins, featuring guest pitcher Will Venable
12:00 pm — ML Orioles at Rays, featuring guest pitcher Tony Gwynn, Jr. pitcher
1:00 pm — ML Angels at Red Sox, featuring guest pitchers Brad Ausmus and Mark Sweeney
2:00 pm — ML Indians at Pirates, featuring guest pitcher Mark Loretta

The Padres’ Swingin’ Friar and members of the Pad Squad will be on hand from 10:00 am to noon cheering on the players. John Weisbarth, host of Padres’ pre-game and post-game shows, is joining the Miracle League’s broadcast crew for the morning games. He will be providing on-field commentary and mid-inning interviews with the featured pitchers and Miracle League sluggers. He’s also agreed to pitch in relief if called upon.

Alan Moore, Voice of the Miracle League, said this about the challenges to be faced by these Major League pitchers, “They have no idea what they’re in for. Our Miracle League players never give in on any at bat. I’m willing to bet that they’ll each leave the field with an ERA of infinity!”

Sue Botos, Director of the Padres Foundation, said, “The San Diego Padres are pleased to participate in this event and showcase our players’ and club’s involvement in the community. We have a strong partnership with the Miracle League of San Diego, and we are proud of the work they do to ensure special needs children can enjoy and excel at America’s favorite past time.”

Commenting on the event, Miracle League Founder and President Dan Engel said “This is also a great way to call attention to our ‘Buy-a-brick’ fundraiser which allows individuals and families to have a personalized brick placed in the Miracle League ‘Walk of Champions’ with all proceeds supporting the maintenance of our special field. It is a chance to have a personal link to this site where the dreams of these terrific athletes are fulfilled.” Bricks can be purchased online at https://www.bricksrus.com/order/miracleleague/index.php for as little as $ 75.00.

All Miracle League games are played at Engel Family Field, adjacent to the hilltop picnic and playground area in San Dieguito Park, at the intersection of Lomas Santa Fe Drive and Highland Drive. Parking is available at San Dieguito Park for the event and the Miracle League concession stand will be serving traditional ballpark fare during the day.
